Draw poker is a variation of poker in which each player is dealt a complete hand before the first betting round, and then develops the hand for later rounds by replacing, or "drawing", cards. Draw poker, which allows each active player, in turn beginning at dealer's left, to discard one or more of his original cards and receive replacements for them from the non dealt portion of the pack. (A player who declines to draw cards is said to "stand pat". Standard five-card draw This is the first poker variation which is learned by most players, and is very common in home games although it is now quite rare in casino and tournament play. Two to eight players can play. One of the most typical games of poker is "Five draw" poker. In this poker game each gambler usually first places an entry bet, termed in poker "Ante". Then each player is being dealt with 5 cards. After each player sees his cards there is another round of betting. Each player can raise, call, fold or check. Raise is a term for adding more money to the pot, raising the stakes. Call is term for meeting the raise, meaning that before the poker player has raised the bet you must call it in order to play this hand of poker. 5 Card Draw Poker Variations Jackpots-In Jackpots, a player has to have a pair of jacks or better in their original 5-card hand to start (or open) the betting. If no one has at least a pair of jacks, everyone folds their cards, antes again and a new hand is dealt. The cycle continues until someone gets dealt a pair of jacks or better and opens the betting. Double Draw-This game is almost the same as regular five-card draw, except everyone gets to draw new cards twice instead of the usual single draw. There's also an additional round of betting following the second draw. Lowball-Lowball (sometimes called California Lowball) is just five-card draw where instead of the highest hand winning the pot, the lowest hand wins it. Deuce to seven Triple draw-Take double-draw, add another draw with another round of betting, and you've got the triple-draw part of this game.
