Soothing Lighting for the Home or Office
Author: Charles Barnett Uplighters are an incredibly versatile style of lighting, for both the home and the office. By directing the light from their bulbs upwards and bouncing it from the ceiling, they can provide a balanced and diffused light. This can often be less harsh than a central ceiling light, and if wall uplighters are used around a room they can create a cosy atmosphere.
Uplighters are, of course, also available as free standing lamps, which are ideal for any room in the home. They are also popular in smaller offices, or premises which have desks in corners or darker areas. They are particularly popular in offices, due to the diffused light that they emit. This is generally much softer than strip lighting, and can also make a room feel much warmer than harsh ceiling lights. Uplighters are generally powered by a plug, so they are easy to move around should you decide to change the layout of the office or area. They can also provide a great light in areas such as receptions or meeting rooms; harsh lighting can make customers feel uncomfortable or under pressure, so a gentle and even light is an asset in any communal area.
Some freestanding uplighters may also have an additional reading light attached to the main stem. This is generally adjustable, to allow you to set the light at the correct height and angle for any needs. Working at a desk, reading or hobbies such as crafts can all need a good clear light, so an added adjustable bulb can be excellent when the main lamp is placed next to a desk or behind a chair.
All freestanding uplighters will have an on and off switch located somewhere on the main cable. However, some models may also incorporate a dimmer switch to control the strength of the main light, or an additional reading light. These dimmers can be great for creating a cosy atmosphere with an uplighter in the home, and a gentle light can look lovely on dark winter nights, or provide a dim back light whilst watching television, for example.
Uplighters are also available as wall fixtures, and can be installed in any home or office environment. This option may require a little more work, as the lights will have to be wired and fitted to the wall. At this stage however, different switches or dimmers can also be installed to match the light fittings. This may be a good idea whilst the work is already being carried out, and should be relatively easy and inexpensive to complete. The style of any uplighters can vary depending on the theme of any room, or the budget available. They can be found in almost any colour, and the bowl surrounding the bulb can vary in style, providing different lighting effects. Some are solid, some can be made from patterned or frosted glass, and some even have a cut out pattern. The huge range available should make the perfect lighting solution for any home or office easy to find.
